How smoking affects your body

No matter how you smoke it, tobacco is very dangerous to your health. Face the truth – Smoking is injurious to health! The most widely known form of cancer caused by smoking is lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women and is one of the hardest cancers to treat. The data says one in three cancer deaths are only due to smoking thus increases the risk of dying from cancer and other diseases in cancer patients and survivors.

Smoking can cause cancer to almost every part of the human body making you extremely weak and helpless. The list of organs is very long and it includes lungs, liver, kidney, urethra, colon, rectum, cervix, bladder, blood, esophagus and orophagus (throat, tongue, soft palate, and tonsils).

2. Smoking and Cardiovascular Disease

Smokers are at greater risk for diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease). About 20% of deaths which occurred due to heart diseases are caused by smoking addiction. It is estimated that one who smokes around 5 or more cigarettes are prone to early signs of cardiovascular diseases. Smoking causes high blood pressure, lowers your ability to exercise, and makes your blood more likely to clot. It also decreases HDL (good) cholesterol levels in the blood.

3. Smoking on the Respiratory system

Smoking can cause lung disease by damaging your airways and the small air sacs (alveoli) found in your lungs. Smoking has dangerous effects on the entire lung organ, affecting its every structure and functioning. It mainly causes decreases its defensive power of lung organ, making prone to a number of lung disorders and lung injury that can lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). Smokers are 12 to 13 times more likely to die from COPD than non-smokers. Cigarette smoking causes most cases of lung cancer. If you have asthma, tobacco smoke can trigger an attack or make an attack worse.

4. Fatigue

Due to smoking, you feel overtired and you be lazy. The immediate effect of smoking is fatigue and weakness. Smoking reduces the supply of oxygen in the blood so that the energy level of the body remains low and you feel tired. These effects can aggravate in case a smoker does not stick to a healthy lifestyle. Your fingernails and toenails aren’t immune to the effects of smoking. Smoking increases the likelihood of fungal nail infections. 

6. The bad breath and yellow teeth

When you smoke and speak, have a bad smell from your mouth. Most smokers always carry mint or gum with them to avoid the unpleasantness of bad breath. Besides bad breath, their teeth become yellow over time and make them look unattractive or at times even twisted. While smokers can minimize these effects by using various over the counter products nowadays, they cannot always insulate themselves from long-term outcomes of smoking. 

7. Reproductive system and fertility

Smoking can cause male orgasm, as it damages the blood vessels that supply blood to the penis. It can also damage sperm, reduce sperm count and cause testicular cancer. Smoking damages the arteries, and blood flow is a key part of male erections. Male smokers have a higher risk of sexual impotence (erectile dysfunction) the more they smoke and the longer they smoke. At least one study has also linked cigar smoking to sexual impotence in men. Smoking can also affect sperm (which reduces fertility) and increase the risk of miscarriage and birth defects.

Smoking damage a woman’s reproductive health. Women who smoke are more likely to have trouble getting pregnant. When they are pregnant they also tend to have problems that can hurt both mother and baby.

8. Smoking and blood circulation

When you smoke, the toxins chemicals present in cigarette enters your blood and damages your blood cells causing mutation and in the worst situation leads to blood cancer. It makes your blood thicker which result in an increased chance of clot formation. It causes narrowing of your arteries, reducing a sufficient amount of oxygen supply to the heart, brain and other organs of the body.
